Zimbabwe’s national and international telecoms traffic will soon be under the full control of the telecoms regulator. To this end, it requested the expertise of Global Voice Group for the establishment of an independent control system which will be installed at its headquarters in Harare.

Zimbabwe’s Posts and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz) announced last week that it signed a contract with Global Voice Group (GVG) – a global provider of digital solutions – to set up a monitoring system for telecommunications traffic and revenue insurance (TTMS).

The electronic solution will allow independent monitoring and accounting of national and international telecoms traffic.

According to the telecoms regulator, the monitoring system will also help fight network fraud and enforce billing integrity on all communication networks available in the country. GVG will carry out the project on the basis of a “build, operate and transfer (BOT)” contract. The system will be installed at the Potraz headquarters in Harare.

According to Gift Machengete, the director general of the public telecoms regulatory body, the launch of the surveillance system is imminent. He pointed out that it is one of the many landmark accomplishments of the Potraz this year.
