Zimbabwe: Dandemutande and BCS Group team for more fibre expansion in Zimbabwe
Dandemutande of Zimbabwe is partnering with Fiber Connections, a subsidiary of Bandwidth and Cloud Services Group (BCS Group), on a fibre-optic network expansion project. The first phase of the scheme, which was completed in December, included 531km of infrastructure connecting Beitbridge, Somabhula and Bulawayo, plus a link to Victoria Falls. The second phase, due for completion next month, will see 360km of fibre laid between Somabhula and the capital Harare.
Dandemutande chief executive officer Never Ncube is cited by The Zimbabwe Mail as saying: ‘We have made an investment of USD5 million for the backhaul and will invest about USD3 million in metro fibre in cities that the backhaul is passing through to modernise and upgrade our network, thereby ensuring that the platform is future-ready to meet customer needs.’
BCS Group recently teamed up with Dark Fiber Africa on a similar backbone network rollout project, which will see 2,000km of fibre deployed alongside rail lines.
