Vodafone Group dismisses suggestions that it could sell Vodacom Group stake
UK telecoms giant Vodafone Group has moved to dismiss suggestions that it is discussing a sale of its majority stake in South Africa-based Vodacom Group. Last week Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, reported that Vodafone was working with advisers to look at ways at extracting more value from its 65.1% stake in Vodacom. It had been suggested that consideration was being given to options which included: merging units with other operators; divesting assets in some markets; or selling a stake in the whole business.
Now, however, the British company was reported by Mobile World Live to have issued a statement regarding the reports, saying: ‘Vodacom is a strong business that is an important part of Vodafone. There are no discussions ongoing in relation to a potential sale.’
