The developments were presented during an event held on April 10, 2026, at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre, which also featured the launch of 758 new communication towers and the official handover of telecom infrastructure to the government as part of Tanzania’s broader digital transformation agenda.
The Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) has showcased progress in the country’s national broadband expansion during a high-level communications infrastructure event attended by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dodoma.
During the exhibition, TTCL Director General Moremi Marwa briefed the President on the advancement of the National ICT Broadband Backbone project, noting that the network has now reached all regions of Tanzania, with more than 82% of districts connected.
He highlighted that the expanded infrastructure has enabled TTCL to roll out affordable high-speed internet services, including the “Faiba Mlangoni Kwako” home broadband service and public Wi-Fi access points in open spaces across the country.
According to TTCL, the improved backbone network has also made it possible to extend connectivity to households, offices, and key public locations, including major tourist sites such as Mount Kilimanjaro, supporting both economic activity and digital inclusion.
