The mobile operator MTN South Africa has revealed that an investment of more than 10 billion rand (692.14 million USD) has already been injected during this year in improving quality and the capacity of its telecom network. The company has hinted that this amount could further increase in light of its intentions to further strengthen the quality and capacity of the network in densely populated areas.

Jacqui O’Sullivan, Director of General Affairs at MTN SA, explained that “this network upgrade exercise aims to enrich the experience of customers who will travel the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, whether it either on vacation or visiting relatives ” . Clearly, effectively manage the large voice and data traffic generated by consumers during the last two weeks of December.

The sectors that have been identified to benefit from the optimization of the network are the main roads, in particular the N1 which connects Cape Town and Limpopo, the N3 which connects Gauteng and Durban, the N12 which connects Johannesburg and the Garden Route, the N2 which connects Cape Town and Durban, the N4 which connects Pretoria and Mozambique and the N7 which is the road between Cape Town and Namibia.

The network optimization will also result in the deployment of new base stations and technology upgrades on some 3G and LTE stations, even in the most remote areas, said Giovanni Chiarelli, director of technology and information of MTN SA.
