Schools in Rwanda’s remote and tough terrain are the primary beneficiaries of the partnership between the government and Ignite Electricity to connect all learning facilities to the internet and solar electricity.

Rwanda’s Ministries of Information and Communications Technology and Education have formed a cooperation with the developer of solar-based solutions and the recipient of the renowned 2023 Zayed Award.

The programme will make use of Ignite Power’s new LinX device, which features solar-powered satellite terminals.

These guarantee outstanding, long-term, and cheap internet connections to all institutions, regardless of location.

Despite significant progress in Rwanda’s education system, many schools in remote locations continue to lack stable power and internet connectivity.

This prevents the integration of critical educational tools and platforms.

“We are pleased to launch this disruptive partnership with a leading private-sector company such as Ignite Power,” said Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT.

She believes that a universal internet connection in schools is critical to fulfilling Rwanda’s vision of a knowledge-based society.

“This collaboration signifies our commitment to ensuring that every citizen, especially students, has equal opportunity to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” said the minister.

Ignite Power has already linked over 1 million people in the East African country to electricity with its innovative solar installations.

The company was awarded the coveted 2023 Zayed Prize last week, recognising its disruptive inventions and widespread influence across Africa.

Its LinX system, which is entirely solar-powered, enables rapid deployment even in locations without access to the national electricity grid.

“Internet connectivity has evolved into a basic infrastructure and a human right in today’s world,” stated Yariv Cohen, CEO of Ignite Power.

Linx, according to Cohen, ensures speedy deployment and demonstrates a commitment to sustainability.

“This initiative sets a precedent for comprehensive, equitable, and sustainable development across Rwanda and beyond,” he said.
