Orange CAR selects Parallel Wireless for OpenRAN
Parallel Wireless announced that, in partnership with i engineering Group, it was selected by Orange to help extend its coverage across the Central African Republic using OpenRAN.
Orange plans to use Open RAN technology in multiple markets across Africa, where it is active in seventeen countries. Parallel Wireless enables a shift to open, software-based and virtualized OpenRAN network architectures to deliver scalable mobile networks. Its equipment also helps simplify network management and integration of new RAN products into the core of the network.
The move is part of Orange’s IDEAL (Include Digital in Every African Life) initiative, which aims to provide affordable digital services to those currently not connected. The OpenRAN system is expected to help make it easier to expand services to rural populations, including voice, data and Orange Money, and help customers upgrade to 4G.
