Canadian company NuRAN Wireless, specializing in providing wireless infrastructure solutions for mobile and broadband, announced on January 30, 2024 the deployment of 21 additional sites, as well as capacity upgrades at five sites. This work is carried out on behalf of the mobile telephone operator Orange Cameroun.

The deployment of these new infrastructures occurs in a context marked by the deterioration of the quality of service of all mobile operators in Cameroon. The operation carried out by NuRAN Wireless, with a view to improving the quality and coverage of the Orange Cameroon network, comes especially the day after (October 2023) the issuance by the Cameroonian authorities of a category 1 license to this Canadian company.

According to the regulations in force in the country, this type of license is granted to promoters  of “radio networks open to the public in one or more localities; collection and distribution networks, with a view to providing electronic communications services to the public; electronic communications networks open to the public in rural areas; virtual networks open to the public and passive infrastructures supporting electronic communications networks  .”

Based on this list, NuRAN Wireless falls into the category of promoters of “  passive infrastructure supporting electronic communications networks  ”.

The installation in Cameroon of NuRAN Wireless allows it to conquer new contracts in the local telecoms market, where there is no shortage of opportunities. As proof, mentions Investing in Cameroon , we remember that in a press release published on February 13, 2023, the CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART), Philémon Zoo Zame, revealed that mobile telephone operators and MTN, Orange and Camtel have made a commitment to make, in the short term, cumulative investments amounting to 156 billion FCFA, with a view to improving their quality of service.
