Nigeria: Government to invest USD 23.4 million in construction of ICT park in Abuja
In 2020, the Nigerian authorities made a commitment to catch up with the country’s digital lag. By adopting a new strategy that runs over ten years, they have determined the different axes of their investments in ICT.
The Nigerian government has approved an investment of 8.9 billion naira (23.4 million USD) for the construction of a technology park in the territory of the federal capital in Abuja. The decision was taken at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Wednesday 10 February.
According to Isa Ali Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, this infrastructure, which will contribute to technological development, has been allocated a land area of 4,200 square meters.
The goal “ behind the ICT park is that it is a center where public and private ICT hubs will be coordinated by the Federal Government of Nigeria, where young innovators with crazy and disruptive ideas will be mentored, and all they need. need will be provided. We will provide them with an environment allowing them to use and offer breakthrough technologies. It’s the first of its kind in Nigeria, we have so many parks and hubs, but they’re regional. This will be national, ”said the minister.
The technological investment announced by the Nigerian government in Abuja is in line with the ambitions of the new national strategic digital economy policy adopted last year. In its pillar 5, it gives pride of place to the development and promotion of digital services.
By mentoring young Nigerians in their innovative technological ideas, the federal government is strengthening the foundations for the country’s digital transformation. It is thus breeding the next generation of tech entrepreneurs able to provide it with the means to achieve its goal of creating 100 million jobs by 2030.
