MTN Zambia unveils indoor 5G solution targeting faster speeds, lower latency and improved service quality
- MTN Zambia launches Huawei-powered indoor 5G solution to improve coverage and performance
- Solution targets offices, malls, hospitals, hotels, and residential complexes
- MTN strengthens broadband offering amid rising demand and intense market competition
MTN Zambia announced, on Tuesday, the launch of a solution designed to strengthen its indoor 5G connectivity. The initiative, developed in partnership with Chinese technology company Huawei, bolsters its broadband offering in an evolving market.
Dubbed “5G Penta Band Indoor Solution,” the solution is designed to address indoor connectivity challenges, MTN Zambia said, without detailing them. It “delivers enhanced network coverage, faster speeds, lower latency, and improved Quality of Service across office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, hotels, and residential complexes,” the telecom operator added.
MTN is thus strengthening its broadband offering to meet growing demand for ultra-fast connectivity, which is driven by the widespread adoption of digital services and applications, the rise of streaming, remote work and online services, as well as growing data needs in homes and businesses.
At home, for example, multiple users can simultaneously access the internet to stream high-definition video, take online classes, join video calls or play games online. Connectivity is also becoming essential to the development of smart homes, with connected devices such as security cameras, televisions, voice assistants and smart appliances.
Beyond demand, MTN is also positioning itself in a highly competitive Zambian telecom market. The company had 6.4 million mobile subscribers at end-2024, according to the PwC Zambia Telecommunications Report 2025, placing it behind Airtel, which had 11.1 million subscribers, while Zamtel recorded 5.2 million over the same period.
Alongside telecom operators, which account for most of the internet connectivity market, internet service providers are also significant players. The leading player is Starlink, which launched services in the country in 2023. The company offers high-speed satellite internet and can provide nationwide coverage, including in areas where telecom operators’ terrestrial networks remain limited.
