The latest MyBroadband Insights research report shows that MTN was the top-rated mobile operator in South Africa, followed by Telkom, Cell C, Vodacom, and Rain.

The Q1 2026 research report is based on data from the MyBroadband Speedtest apps on Android and iPhone.

These platforms allow users to test their Internet speeds and rate their mobile operator based on overall customer satisfaction. This article focuses on customer satisfaction.

Between 1 January 2026 and 31 March 2026, users performed 319,000 performance tests, which included 316,000 Android tests and 2,700 iPhone tests.

MyBroadband Insights processed this data to ensure accurate results and a true reflection of customer satisfaction. The score is reflected as a percentage.

The results showed that MTN achieved the highest customer satisfaction, with an average score of 79%.

This is unsurprising, as MTN has had the best mobile network quality for years, which is a big determinant of customer satisfaction.

MTN spends billions each year to improve its network and improve its customer experience, which is shown in the latest results.

Apart from enhancing the network performance, it installed thousands of batteries and generators to combat power cuts and ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

Telkom, which has experienced a rejuvenation under the chief executive Serame Taukobong, ranked second with 75%.

Telkom has a strong focus on its mobile products, which have become the growth engine for the telecommunications giant.

It has experienced rapid subscriber and revenue growth in its mobile division, and the latest MyBroadband Insights research report shows why.

Rain, which is a relative newcomer to the mobile industry, has a much worse customer satisfaction rating than its larger competitors.
