The mobile operator Telkom Kenya is currently preparing its connection to the undersea fiber optic cable PEACE (Pakistan & East Africa Connecting Europe). The telecom company would like this whole operation to be completed by the end of 2021. The connection to this new telecom infrastructure, which is scheduled to come into service in the first quarter of 2022, will then allow it to acquire new capacities. data. The PEACE cable will be the sixth system to which Telkom Kenya will be connected.

In an interview with Capital FM on August 14, Mugo Kibati, CEO of Telkom Kenya, said that Telkom’s terrestrial fiber optic network is unlike any other. “  This is why we have defined our own strategy to grow and transform Telkom into a technology company. We are aware of the fact that the ecosystem does not only include our local competitors […] , competitors from all over the world will enter the market and we must be ready for that,  ”he stressed.

Telkom Kenya is confident that it will be connected to the PEACE cable by the end of the year given the success recorded on August 13 by the PEACE Cable International Network Ltd consortium during the system integration acceptance tests on the connecting segment.
