The Government of the Republic of Guinea is currently working on the effective launch of a new incumbent telecommunications operator to replace the defunct Sotelgui. For Guinea Telecom, the new entity created on paper, the government is looking for technically reliable and financially robust partners. Asked by the newspaper L’Indépendant, about the possibility of entrusting this partnership to Huawei, Moustapha Mamy Diaby (photo), the Minister of Posts, telecommunications and the Digital Economy, says that the Chinese technology equipment manufacturer ”  is not interested in the operation . “

The objective through Guinea Telecom, is probably to endow the country with a sovereignty in telecommunications that will allow the state to be less dependent on the services of foreign operators such as Orange, MTN and Cellcom. The public telecom company is also expected to help lower telecom utility bills.

During his interview with the newspaper The Independent, Moustapha Mamy Diaby also unveiled the government’s intention to divest new shares in Guinean Broadband (GUILAB), the country’s largest telecommunications infrastructure operator and gateway to the country’s international communications.“The state, initially, was 100%. Today he holds 52.52% and he will release 27.52% to hold 25%. “said the Minister of Posts, telecommunications and the Digital Economy which does not exclude even that the shares of the State can fall to 10%.
