On the sidelines of the CyberTech Global 2020 conference held in Tel Aviv, Israel, from January 28 to 30, Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who led a delegation from Ghana to the meeting, signed two cooperation agreements.

The first, signed with the Israeli Minister of Communications David Amsalem, relates to the fields of telecommunications, posts and information technologies. The second, signed with Yigal Unna, the national chief executive officer of cybersecurity of Israel, relates to the strengthening of cooperation in matters of cybersecurity.

According to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the cybersecurity memorandum of understanding should further support Ghana’s development in this area which should be enriched by law this year.

This MoU will complement national efforts, particularly in the area of ​​cybersecurity research and development, to achieve self-sufficiency and develop exports of cybersecurity products and services in the sub-region. It will contribute to strengthening Ghana’s preparedness for cybersecurity, in particular with regard to the protection of essential national information infrastructures.

Recognizing that technology and processes alone are not enough to protect the citizens of Ghana, the Minister of Communications said cooperation with Israel will also help develop an adequate human resource. Ghana will therefore seek the support of Israeli universities and institutions to train Ghanaian officials in cybersecurity, through academic exchanges and professional development courses.
