Mobile phone operator MTN Ghana has been fined more than 110,000 cedis ($ 19,500) by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The telecom regulator accuses him of not having provided him, within the time limits, the required report on the numerous disturbances recently recorded on his telecom network. The sanction paid by MTN Ghana was established according to the scale defined by the regulator. It is the sum of three contraventions.

In section N 23 of the said regulation, a fine of 50,000 cedis is issued for non-warning of the NCA, as soon as possible, and of all the persons concerned, including the subscribers, in case of billing problems. concerning the purchase of telecommunication service. The same section also provides for a fine of 50,000 cedis for failure to notify the Authority and all persons concerned, including subscribers, of the inaccessibility of the customer support lines. Finally, a fine of 10,000 cedis, in accordance with section N 7 of the scale, is provided for failure to submit the report within 24 hours. Every day late is fined 10,000 cedis

The NCA ordered MTN to pay these fines at the close of business on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. The delay in settling them would only increase the total amount payable, which will be in addition to the compensation that the telecom company must pay to consumers.
