Ethiopia Launches Super App Offering Access to 185 Government Services

  • Ethiopia has launched the MESOB super app, giving citizens access to more than 185 government services through a single digital platform.
  • The platform integrates with the national digital identity system, Fayda, allowing users to access services through a single account.
  • MESOB forms a key pillar of Ethiopia’s 2025-2030 digitalization strategy and will gradually expand to all government ministries and agencies.

Ethiopia has officially launched MESOB, a unified digital platform that centralizes access to government services as the country accelerates the modernization of its public administration. Authorities unveiled the platform on Saturday, June 20, during the “Digital for Excellence” summit. The government designed the application to simplify administrative procedures for citizens and accelerate the digital transformation of the public sector.

The Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute developed MESOB as a government super app. The platform allows users to access more than 185 public services through a single account linked to the country’s national digital identity system, Fayda.

Users can complete a wide range of administrative procedures through the application, including obtaining national identity documents, filing tax-related requests, applying for business licenses, securing work permits and completing investment procedures.

Moreover, the platform connects databases across multiple government agencies. The integration eliminates the need for users to submit the same information repeatedly and reduces physical visits to public offices. According to the authorities, the integrated system will shorten processing times, improve administrative transparency and reduce opportunities for corruption associated with manual procedures.

The launch of MESOB aligns with the global expansion of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiatives. These systems generally rely on three core components: a digital identity system, data-sharing platforms that connect government agencies, and online public services.

Several African countries, including Rwanda, Kenya and Morocco, have invested in similar digital public infrastructure to improve access to government services and support the digital transformation of their economies.

In Ethiopia, MESOB represents one of the main pillars of the government’s 2025-2030 digitalization strategy. The platform builds on the Fayda digital identity system, which had registered more than 20 million users by July 2025 and had already connected 55 institutions.

During its pilot phase, which began in April 2025, MESOB brought together 12 federal institutions and 41 public services. The government now plans to expand the platform gradually until it connects all ministries and public agencies across the country.
