In response to a user tweet on X (formerly Twitter) asking about Starlink’s availability in South Africa, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, confirmed that the company is still “waiting for regulatory approval” to launch the satellite internet service in the country.

Starlink, known for its Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, has recently expanded its reach across various parts of Africa, including Zimbabwe, where it became operational in May 2024 after receiving approval from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Starlink’s internet service offers high-speed connectivity to remote and underserved areas, making it a potential game-changer for internet accessibility in South Africa. The service is particularly noted for its ability to provide broadband in areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking, helping bridge the digital divide across the continent.
