During the last three years, we have witnessed fairly sustained movements on the side of Djibouti Telecom, national operator of the Republic of Djibouti.

Indeed, structuring projects are constantly being implemented to increase the coverage of all the services offered by the national operator. With sustained regional and international growth, seriousness and unquestionable experience, Djibouti Telecom no longer hesitates to show its muscles.

Colossal densification projects, already underway, have moved up a gear in a context of increasingly growing need for connectivity in the Horn of Africa and beyond (arrival of several submarine cables, OTTs etc.). Djibouti Telecom has thus considerably accelerated the renovation of its existing infrastructures but has also deployed new ones in order to anticipate the evolution of the market, in particular the ever increasing consumption of data.

It is with this strategic objective, among other things, that work has been carried out to significantly increase the capacities of 4G sites in the capital and in the 5 interior regions. Thus, thanks to the densification of its mobile radio coverage, a user present in an extremely busy artery of the capital will be able to benefit from a high-quality mobile broadband data connection, even at peak hours.

Since 2019, having clearly relieved itself of a large part of the activities not related to its core business by a series of outsourcing, the Djiboutian operator intends to want to devote itself to its permanent ambition to set itself up as a model in this part. of Africa and by becoming the economic powerhouse for local businesses. Drawn by a good economic situation, a young population and a very strong penetration of smartphones and other ICT consumption medium, the telecom operator has set itself the goal of to be the digital platform for the region. 

Regarding Djibouti Telecom, the deployment of broadband everywhere seems to continue for a while since work on the site relating to the northern road corridor (Tadjourah-Balho) is underway. Several telecom antennas have thus been installed in the Tadjourah region and should allow, according to company officials, to connect users of the corridor leading to Ethiopia to high-speed mobile internet. The localities of the South are not left out since works of the same scale are observed in Goubetto, HolHoll, Galileh, and As Eyla. Broadband internet through the deployment of the 4G layer on existing GSM sites is in the process of being finalized in these localities.

Aware of the need to constantly modernize its facilities to support the economic development of the country and offer lasting solutions to entrepreneurs and to the logistics and tourism sector, the Director General of Djibouti Telecom, Mr. Mohamed Assoweh Bouh, insisted on increase the number of projects in the direction of Ras Syan and Medeho in the Obock region, but also towards Ali Sabieh, Dasbyo, HollHoll, Dikhil, Arta and even in Djibouti-ville. More than twenty GSM sites have been deployed in recent months.

At a time when the national operator seems to want to respond to the requests of various investors, it would seem that the priority is to offer ever more coverage and services to its local, regional and international customers. With resilient infrastructure, human capital and a CSR policy since 2019, Djibouti Telecom seems ready to meet all the challenges of the future with confidence.
