Burkina Faso: ARCEP consults sector players for the allocation of frequencies for fixed Internet
The operators of the telecoms sector of Burkina Faso have one month to send to the telecoms regulator their opinion on the methods of allocation of frequencies for the fixed Internet. The public consultation opened on 1 st December 2020 follows several frequencies requests made over the years.
Burkina Faso’s Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP) collects the opinions of players in the telecommunications sector on the terms and conditions for allocating telecom frequencies for the provision of fixed Internet. It launched a public consultation to this effect on 1 st December 2020. It is open until 5 January 2021.
Through this consultation, the telecoms regulator awaits comments from Internet service providers, telecom operators and other players on aspects relating to frequency bands; the technologies to be used as well as the duplexing mode; the quantity of spectrum and the size of the spectrum blocks to be made available; geographic coverage of licenses; the methods of allocation of frequencies.
According to ARCEP, this consultation was decided in the light of requests for frequencies expressed for a number of years by several players in the telecoms sector. The congestion of certain frequency bands had moreover led the regulator to suspend the allocations of frequencies intended for the provision of fixed connectivity.
