Angola, Kenya sign MoU to strengthen ICT
Kenya and Uganda signed an agreement this week to collaborate on technology advancement, satellite networks, ICT training, economy, rural connectivity, cybersecurity, and digital literacy.
Technical teams will begin working together immediately.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at a meeting between Kenya’s cabinet secretary for National Treasury and Planning, John Mbadi, Angola’s minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies, and Social Communication, and Kenya’s ambassador to Angola, Joyce Khasimwa M’maitsi, to expedite Kenya-Angola ICT cooperation.
Reflecting on his trip to Angola for the Transformative Week for Financing Africa’s Infrastructure Development, John Tanui, Kenya’s Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, stated that he represented Kenya in impactful engagements that included ministerial dialogues, strategic bilaterals, cultural immersion, and interactions with Kenyan diaspora in Angola.
He commented on his LinkedIn page: “The summit reaffirmed Africa’s commitment to accelerate digital transformation, unlock infrastructure financing, and strengthen collaboration for shared prosperity.
“I took part in the Investors–Ministerial Roundtable on Financing Africa’s Digital Transformation, sharing Kenya’s experience in expanding broadband, digital public services, and innovative blended financing.
“Key focus areas included broadband expansion, policy and PPP reforms to attract investors, and capital mobilisation for data centres, fibre, IXPs, and digital infrastructure.”
He added: “These conversations highlighted that digital infrastructure is a key driver of Africa’s growth, jobs, and trade.”
