After more than a year of preparation, Africell is fine-tuning the final details before the imminent launch of its services in the Angolan telecoms market. The company, which has acquired the expertise of several international companies, intends to quickly build up solid market shares.

The mobile operator Africell signed a service agreement on Friday October 8 with Angola Cables, a provider of broadband connectivity by submarine cable. This agreement will allow the holder of the fourth unified mobile license in Angola to benefit from IP transit and connectivity solutions for its future telecoms network. They will thus guarantee it to provide its customers with high-quality high-speed data services.

For Angelo Gama, CEO of Angola Cables, Angola Cables’ network of several points of presence (PoP) and their traffic exchange agreements, which guarantee efficient broadband access, also offer Africell a rapid expansion of its mobile data services across Angola. Christopher Lundh, Chairman and CEO of Africell Angola, said ”  fast and reliable connectivity will be essential as we build our Angolan customer base and deliver the innovation the Angolan telecommunications sector so badly needs  ” .

Africell’s agreement with Angola Cables is a new step taken by the telecoms operator in its construction to realize its vision of being a benchmark player in the country once its services are officially launched next December. Since the acquisition of the telecoms license in May 2020, the telecoms company has increased the number of strategic agreements in this direction. Last August, the new Angolan mobile telephone operator entrusted the construction of its charging and billing system to Oracle Communications, the platform at the heart of the monetization of all future mobile services.

Africell Angola will enter the national telecoms market with a mobile penetration rate of 46.3% and Internet penetration of 31.0%, according to data from Digital Report 2021. The company that will compete with Unitel and Movicel is currently putting all the chances on its side to quickly attract consumers and secure comfortable market shares.
