Amazon Is Exploring A US$ 2Billion Investment In Airtel
Industry reports are indicating that Amazon.com is early-stage talks to buy up to 5% stake in the business of mobile operators – Bharti Airtel, the owners of Airtel.
According to Reuters, the investment talk seems credible enough. If it does go well, it will give Bharti the firepower to push its competitive advantage both in India as well as across all markets where Airtel is present.
Amazon is, according to reports, committing almost US$6.5 billion investment towards expanding its global e-commerce footprint. Both Amazon and Bharti Airtel press offices declined to elaborate on the status of any potential transactions.
It is noteworthy that last week, the Financial Times reported that Google is also looking into a Vodafone idea.
