Telecom operators are increasingly expressing the need for frequencies that can guarantee higher quality services. Thanks to African and international expertise, their requests have a good chance of materializing.

African countries now have in their possession several tools through which they will be able to develop broadband, in particular 5G, on their respective territories. These are several recommendations developed by the African Telecommunications Union (UAT) in partnership with the Swedish technology company Ericsson.

Approved on Friday March 5 by twenty-five countries and representatives of regional economic blocks in Africa, these recommendations will guide the nations of the continent in the rational and efficient management of the telecoms spectrum, which represents the essential resource for the development of broadband.

“  Radio spectrum is a natural, scarce and valuable resource that is currently used for a wide range of applications, providing many economic and social benefits on the continent. As demand for spectrum continues to grow, regulators must  “manage it more strategically to support the continent’s digital transformation, according to John Omo, UAT secretary general.”

The recommendations of UAT and Ericsson to develop broadband in Africa are the result of the collaboration signed between the two parties on June 15, 2020 and whose main objective is to connect, innovate and transform the continent. into a knowledge economy .

The UAT is certain that a strict application of its recommendations will contribute to renewed investment in the telecoms sector and accelerate the digital transformation of the continent, which brings multiple socio-economic benefits.
