African startups raised $343 million in April 2025, according to Africa: The Big Deal , a specialized platform that tracks deals over $100,000. This represents a significant increase from the $50 million raised in March 2025, and also surpasses the $289 million recorded last January.

“This is not just a solid rebound from a disappointing March: it was the second-best April on record, surpassed only by the April 2022 funding wave. Compared to last year, the difference is striking: funding has increased 4.5 times compared to April 2024. A clear sign that investors, while still cautious, remain confident in the continent’s potential…” says Africa: The Big Deal .

This performance is all the more notable given that it comes amid a global tightening of funding. African startups are attracting less and less funding, and this boost in April suggests the resilience of their ecosystem in the face of global economic challenges. If this trend continues, 2025 could mark a new turning point in their funding, after two years of decline.

As usual, startups from the “Big Four” countries made the largest deals. South African healthtech HearX merged with American Eargo, securing the first mega-deal of 2025, at $100 million. Egyptian fintech Bokra raised $59 million through a sukuk (Islamic financial certificate similar to a bond in Western finance) issue.

Meanwhile, fintech company Stitch raised $55 million. In the French-speaking ecosystem, fintech company Djamo announced a $17 million round. This is the largest venture capital funding ever raised by an Ivorian startup.
