MTN Benin and Ericsson deploy network solution based on artificial intelligence and machine learning in Africa

Artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms effectively predict any degradation in throughput while offering automated corrective action. The solution delivers higher throughputs, which translates into a better customer experience for our subscribers.

MTN Benin and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) have partnered to deploy an artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solution in Africa to address throughput issues. A network management system using AI and ML was designed to address throughput degradation and improve customer satisfaction. This solution builds on the existing Ericsson operations engine designed to deliver data-driven network operations, including state-of-the-art AI-based cognitive software for network optimization.

The continued increase in connected devices has led to an increase in spectrum requirements, which has strained some sites. Ericsson has designed its latest algorithms to act on highly accurate predictions of future throughput decline based on historical data. As a result, MTN Benin can maximize the use of available spectrum, thereby improving user experience through a reliable and quality network for MTN Benin subscribers.

Uche OFODILE, Managing Director of MTN Benin, said:“Throughput degradation, one of the most common challenges in network management, has been successfully solved through our joint efforts with Ericsson. increased number of connected devices and the corresponding increase in network traffic Ericsson gave us the best solution available with their proactive AI and ML solutions, identifying the problem before it happened/materialized. ‘Ericsson to design creative network solutions, we hope to provide a more individualized approach to network management, and thus boost customer satisfaction and successfully contribute to the government’s ambition toto be the leading digital service provider in West Africa .”

Hossam Kandeel, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit MTN and Customer Unit MTN Africa at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, said: ” It is a pleasure to support the acceleration of MTN’s automation journey. Benin, with remarkable positive effects on the end-user experience, network performance and operational efficiency. We are able to provide very accurate predictions on future limited speeds, anticipate problems of throughput and propose immediate corrective actions. This collaboration aligns with our goal of transforming network operations and optimization into a proactive, data-driven approach – leveraging AI-based cognitive software and the engineEricsson operations.”

The AI and ML solution has multiple benefits as it addresses throughput degradation in the most efficient way by anticipating it, offering automated corrective action, increasing throughput for service level agreements ( SLA) and making the best use of network resources.
