Subscribers of Orange Centrafrique have been unable to access mobile services after a major blaze at the operator’s premises in the Central African Republic’s capital Bangui destroyed its core network, data centre and radio installations on 6 June, reports Radio France Internationale (RFI). The operator is still evaluating the damage and has yet to indicate when services will be resumed.

In an interview with RFI, Orange Centrafrique CEO Regis Deliere confirmed the fire had ‘wreaked havoc, destroying most of the equipment’ and putting the operator’s entire network in the country out of service. ‘It required colossal amounts and years of work to construct this equipment, so replacing it will cost a lot of money,’ he added. The operator confirmed in a press release published on Monday that it was assessing the impact of the fire and possible options to ‘gradually restore services as quickly as possible’.
