Angola was added to the 2Africa cable in August 2021. The infrastructure is expected to connect 33 countries on three continents and provide improved connectivity to more than three billion people.

The 2Africa fiber optic submarine cable of the eponymous consortium led by the American company Meta will land on the Angolan coast on July 30, reports the Angolan News Agency (ANGOP) . The infrastructure will be operated by the telecom operator Unitel.

The 2Africa consortium continues the gradual deployment of its infrastructure with a view to its full commissioning in 2024. The cable system has already landed in Djibouti, Italy, France, Spain, Egypt, South Africa, Madagascar and the Seychelles. About twenty sites should host it in Africa over the next few months.

This infrastructure should make it possible to strengthen the telecom infrastructure of Unitel and Angola. This would not only allow the operator to strengthen its broadband connectivity offers, but also provide additional capacity to national telecommunications operators through its national fiber optic network.

Unitel will also be able to provide operators in neighboring countries, such as Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Botswana and Namibia, with access to 2Africa.
